Pushing political and social agendas should be moderated by a more compassionate process but unfortunately now the left wing has decided to control every aspect of life to their liking. I try to ignore it and find more neutral people, but the damage is being done. Our school appears to be getting slowly eaten alive by supposedly well meaning “conscious” people, but it’s their way or no way, and you het shamed for not agreeing. That not the sophistication of Waldorf, that’s social barbarism. "This is my favorite post...From a colleague:

"This is my favorite post so far. Have been surprised & frustrated on the (rare, thankfully) occasion when the oddly heteronormative streak in the Waldorf/anthro community shows itself. However rare, it needs a challenge. (Although this is not my main attraction to the piece, which is an illumination rather than a contrary (binary!) argument.)

The lead-in about polarity is a great hook. Starts the gentle reader up a low-grade ramp—an exponential curve.

I like the direct assertion of the limits of binary categorization of human beings; and, further, the stalling of imagination at the linear construct of gender.

The color analogy not only works, but it also imparts a deep sense of the depth and great beauty of humans as humans, becoming themselves.

It also speaks to the divergence in perfection, i.e., this unique color—say, the particular green of this particular fernhead, lit by this ray of the sun—is perfect because it is expressed uniquely, not because it can be lumped into a blanket “green”, far less if it is reduced to “cool colors”; side note, the infinite parsing of color, far beyond the perception of the human eye, like the infinity contained in the ever-divisible fraction...

The other reason is my personal connection. As a child, I was constantly mistaken for a boy. My parents dressed me with extraordinary practicality, but I did present as boyish, independent of attire. By the time I was a grown woman, I was nearly immune to being addressed as a man (once while I was pregnant). So almost as long as I can remember, I’ve known gender as a social construct. And have observed the extraordinary discomfort ppl have when their perception is corrected—the looks of horror on the faces of old ladies when I said “I’m a girl”! When the concept of “queer” was introduced to me (can’t remember when), right away I thought, “That’s me!” And I actually no longer correct anyone who says “Sir” or what have you.

Further note—in white-as-white Minnesota, in the fantastic 70s & 80s, I tanned beyond tan. Every time I went off the camp there was a period of girls whispering & pointing, followed by the bravest or the most pliable asking, “Are you half and half?” (wince). Def not saying I know anything first-person about being black, but I do remember realizing that race is also a social construct.Stephen Sagarinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06151357340976973963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-810184829371559104.post-9275282913264812982020-04-23T00:03:28.032-04:002020-04-23T00:03:28.032-04:00Refreshing. My students are only in first grade so I will not Zoom with them, but I have had check-in phone conversations with them which have been delightful. A highlight: "My neighbor's pig broke into the shed, knocked over the fridge, and ate all the food in there!"

My friend who is a therapist for anxious teens (teletherapist now) says she advises all of them to start the day by changing out of their PJs--to follow a schedule and focus on the now.

I appreciate that you've prioritized relationships as essential in distance learning. Several messages from high school parents ask for assistance with just this. Without school starting at 8:30 each morning, my students can sleep late, complete work at any hour, and (sometimes) show up for Zoom calls that they have begged to have scheduled later in the day.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07015489201239933979noreply@blogger.com
